DEON ANGELO
launches affordable luxury brand
‘HELAO’
Helao, meaning lucky in Oshiwambo, is an affordable luxury collection inspired by the Aawambo lineage and Bantu tribes.
Created by Deon Angelo, a Namibian fashion designer and Haute Future Fashion Academy graduate from Milan, the collection was showcased during a private fashion show at the Dinapama factory in Windhoek.
Angelo brilliantly incorporated Odelela print material, the traditional fabric of the Owambo people, featuring striking combinations of red, pink, black, and sometimes burgundy. He also skillfully played with earthy tones like yellow, representing the sun, red for the soil, blue for the sky, and gold symbolizing fire.
The result was a captivating collaboration among renowned Namibian artists from various fields, including musicians, visual artists, make-up artists, photographers, and videographers, set against an industrial backdrop.
